Oh, What a Night! Gala

The 14th annual Oh, What a Night! Gala rocked the Rickhouse in downtown Durham on April 23rd  with the theme Shanghai Nights. Guests (268) raised $95,000 to benefit hospice and bereavement services.  ABC 11’s Steve Daniels was Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

The evening’s program highlighted the work of Duke Hospice and honored two outstanding individuals.  Felita Harris, CNA, received an award as the 2016 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of NC Outstanding Hospice Caregiver of the Year, recognizing her nine years of service at DHCH as a nursing aid. The 2016 Duke Hospice Outstanding Hospice Volunteer of the Year award was given to DukeHealth employee, Sarah Woodard, who has volunteered with DHCH for more than 25 years serving hospice patients with Alzheimers and dementia.

This year’s Gala was the perfect opportunity to showcase the 25th Anniversary of Camp ReLEAF which provides a weekend camp experience for children in kindergarten through 8th grade.  Camp ReLEAF helps children who have lost a loved one learn to process their emotions and deal with them in healthy ways.  The camp is held each year in late April or early May.  You can read more about Camp ReLEAF here.

Duke Hospice is grateful to long-time Gala sponsor, ABC 11, for creating a video to showcase Camp ReLEAF and to provide information about the Duke Hospice program.  Click here to see the Faces of Camp ReLEAF!
