Speakers Bureau Program

"Because some topics are too important to whisper about"

There are many taboo subjects in our society, and death is near the top of the list. We often find it difficult to talk to our families, our friends, and yes, even our own physicians about this subject. At Duke Hospice we recognize the need to provide our community with ways to open a dialogue about the subjects of death, dying and bereavement.

Hospice staff and volunteers are available to speak with your church, club, retirement community, school or organization on subjects ranging from making medical decisions at the end of life to discussions about the different ways in which children deal with loss. Our nurses, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors, volunteers and medical directors are available to answer your questions and open the dialogue on these difficult topics.

Topics

  • Hospice 101: An Overview
  • Family Care of The Terminal Patient
  • End of Life Choices
  • The Role of the Hospice Volunteer
  • Grief & Loss: Taking Care of Those Who Remain
  • Spiritual Care in Hospice
Our speakers are available during the day and early evening. Depending on your needs and the set-up of your meeting place, we can include PowerPoint or overhead projection during the presentation. Every talk is followed by a question and answer period.

To request a speaker, please contact the Communications and Outreach Department at Duke HomeCare & Hospice at 919-620-3853.
